Sustainable e-commerce is one of the fastest-growing sectors in retail, yet most platforms in the space suffer from the same visual shortcoming: they look earnest but not aspirational. Verdant was determined to change that. They approached us with a clear positioning: a curated marketplace where every product has passed rigorous ethical and environmental standards, and the shopping experience itself should feel as considered as the products within it.

The design strategy centered on an editorial approach borrowed from high-end fashion publishing. Product pages were treated less like transactional screens and more like magazine spreads — generous imagery, long-form storytelling about each maker, and material callouts that turn specifications into seductive details.

Navigation was intentionally minimal. Rather than a mega-menu with dozens of categories, we designed a discovery-first architecture with curated “Collections” that change seasonally, a smart search with visual filtering, and a recommendation engine surfaced through beautifully styled “You may also love” modules.

The color system was inspired by natural materials — undyed linen, aged brass, weathered oak. These weren’t just decorative choices; they signaled the brand’s commitment to craft and authenticity. Typography paired a humanist serif for editorial moments with a clean geometric sans for functional UI elements.

Performance was paramount. The site was built on a headless architecture with Framer for the frontend, optimized for Core Web Vitals. Page load times average under 1.2 seconds, and the mobile experience was designed mobile-first — 68% of Verdant’s traffic comes from phones.

Since launch, Verdant has seen a 3.4x increase in average session duration, a 28% improvement in conversion rate versus their previous platform, and a return customer rate of 41% within the first six months.
